
To transfer Family Tree Maker (FTM) 2019 to a new computer, follow these steps to ensure all your data - including trees, media, and settings - are properly migrated:
✅ 1. Set up the new computer using FTM 2019
To get FTM, visit this link: https://www.mackiev.com/ftm/
Use your prior download link or enter your registration information.
Install the software after downloading it.
💡 Use the Replacement Center to request the download link if you no longer have it.
✅ 2. Back Up Your Tree on the Old Computer
1. On your old PC, launch FTM 2019.
2. Select File > Backup.
3. Within the backup dialog box:
⦁ Make sure you check Include media files.
⦁ (Recommended but optional.) Verify Add stored reports, chart files, and more.
4. Save the Family Tree Maker Backup.ftmb file to an external hard disk, USB device, or cloud storage service like OneDrive or Google disk.
✅ 3. Move the Backup Document
Move the.ftmb file from your backup drive to a location you'll remember or the desktop of the new computer.
✅ 4. On the new computer, launch FTM 2019 and restore the tree.
1. Select Restore under File.
2. Find the file you transmitted (.ftmb).
3. To restore the tree, click Open and then adhere to the instructions.
✅ 5. Reestablish contact with FamilySearch or Ancestry (if applicable)
Following restoration:
⦁ Click Sync Now in the Plan workspace if you sync with Ancestry, or redownload from Ancestry if necessary.
⦁ Log in again under the Web Search workspace to access FamilySearch.
✅ 6. Deactivate the Old Computer's License (Optional)
If the old computer is no longer in use:
⦁ On the old PC, launch FTM.
⦁ Select Deauthorize This Computer under Help.
Unless you're completely occupied, this is optional because FTM 2019 permits activation on up to three computers.
